To mark the 100th anniversary of two key victories during the First World War, the Royal Australian Mint has released commemorative coins recognising the battles of Villers-Bretonneux and Amiens on the Western Front.
The Villers-Bretonneux and Amiens 50 cent collector coins pay tribute to the soldiers who fought in these battles and are a unique symbol of their service and achievement.
The Battle of Villers-Bretonneux saw the Australian troops’ unconventional night attack liberate the town of Villers-Bretonneux. In the Battle of Amiens, Allied troops broke through German lines and gained over 24 kilometres of occupied territory. Both battles were important actions for Australia during the First World War.
