2014 $1 70th Anniversary of Retirement G for George Carded Coin

Not struck for circulation this coin was issued to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the retirement of G for George an Avro Lancaster heavy bomber. Now on display in ANZAC Hall at the Australian War Memorial G for George flew 90 missions over Nazi-occupied territory during the Second World War. Crewed mainly by Australians George embodies the service and sacrifice of over 18 000 Australian airmen who flew in RAF Bomber Command.

The reverse design depicts G for George in flight over enemy territory releasing its bomb payload. The coin is housed sealed in a plastic blister on a colourful see-both-sides cardboard pack
