2009 Inspirational Australians - Steve Irwin Al/Bronze $1 Dollar UNC coin on card

This is the second in an Inspirational Australians dollar coin series. It recognises Steve Irwin a passionate believer in wildlife conservation with an unconventional style and a charismatic personality. Steve Irwin was an inspiration to millions of people in Australia and around the world. He was a larger-than-life character tragically killed in 2006 while doing what he loved best - working with animals.

Through his 'Crocodile Hunter' television documentaries the establishment of the Australia Zoo in southern Queensland the creation of the wildlife charity 'Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors' and much more Steve was able to successfully bring issues of wildlife conservation into the public arena in a way no one had done previously.

The reverse design features an image of Steve Irwin surrounded by a variety of Australian wildlife. A glass beading technique was used to achieve the fine detail. The coin is housed sealed on a colourful see-both-sides cardboard pack.
