In 1928 the Reverend John Flynn established the Aerial Medical Service, later to become the Flying Doctor Service and, with its Royal charter in 1955, the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
This special, uncirculated coin from the Royal Australia Mint commemorates the founding of the service which now flies more than 12 million kilometres a year, providing a “mantle of safety” over outback Australia.
