The 1986 Royal Australian Mint proof coins sent was presented in a clear acrylic case with blue folder used for protection.

Most years since 1966, the Royal Australian Mint has released a proof set containing proof examples of Australia's circulating coinage. Proof coins have a different and more refined manufacturing process than circulation coins. The dies are polished to give a cameo-like/mirror-like or matte finish.

In 1986, the 1 dollar coin original design was replaced with the International Year of Peace one for circulating and proof coins.
